One of the most popular places to eat in Alappuzha is
Komala Hotel's Arun restaurant , but there are plenty of other decent, and cheaper, places including the
Zion Food Shop snack bar at the DTPC jetty. For a splurge, slip on some clean clothes and catch a rickshaw out to the
Alleppey Prince , whose a/c
Vembanad restaurant offers the town's classiest menu, and beer by the pool. The KTDC
Aaram Motel around the corner is a lot cheaper and also serves beer.
Annapoorna , opposite the DTPC jetty. A very good cheap vegetarian "meals" restaurant; the "meals" at lunchtime include a number of coconutty Keralan veg curries.
Arun , Komala Hotel , Zilla Court Ward. Tasty Chinese noodles and Indian veg (including delicious dhal makhini, malai kofta and subzis ), but avoid the Continental food. If it's busy, settle in for a wait.
Greens , Cullan Road, off Mullakal Road. Alappuzha's popular new veg restaurant is cheap and clean with a little garden out front. Fresh south Indian snacks and unlimited "meals" all the way - the excellent coconut uttappam and a lime soda will set you back just Rs17.
Indian Coffee House , Mullakal Road. Part of the all-India chain of co-operatives with a predictable menu of reliable filter coffee, omelettes, dosas and iddlis , but with the addition of meat dishes.
Kream Korner , Mullakal Road. Non-veg restaurant-cum-ice-cream parlour. Mostly chicken and mutton, with a selection of snacks, milkshakes and ice creams.
Thoppi , Karthika Hotel . Very modest but clean and friendly place with an ambitious, inexpensive Indian and Chinese menu. They open early for standard "omelette-bread-butter-jam" breakfasts.
